Story of Garlin the unicorn, Rosa the mermaid, and Terrence the polar bear who play the magical game “Opposites”, and what happened next. It’s a story of the unexpected.
It was a lovely summer evening. Garlin the girly Unicorn and her two best friends Rosa the mermaid, and Terrence the cuddly polar bear decided to go to the park.
‘Let’s go to the park for a picnic!’. They packed a big box full of lunch, got their skates, their favorite drinks, and a BIG wide picnic mat.

Park
The park was just a little walk away so in no time they were there! They looked around to find a spot to sit. Everything seemed calm and peaceful. You could barely even hear the cars from the road. There were some kids sliding down the slides, some little babies swinging, and all their parents keeping a close eye to make sure the kids were ok!
Garlin, Rosa and Terrence opened up their lunch boxes and chatted away. With not a care in their mind, they thought nothing unusual was going to happen.
But little did they know…something unusual was about to happen and it was them that were going to cause it.
Opposites
The little one’s were feeling full and happy. Garlin asked Terrence – “Terrence, what should we do next?”
Being the crazy boy that Terrence was, he immediately responded – “Let’s go skating!”
But everyone was feeling too lazy to go skating. The lunch was heavy!
Rosa suggested – “Hey, I’ve got a new game. It’s from my cousin who works in a magic shop. It’s called – Opposites!”
Garlin was confused – “What is Opposites?”
Rosa – “Oh it’s simple, I have instructions right here. You pick something you see, then we all say ‘Opposite’ and think really hard. If we do it right, we’ll make the opposite happen!”
Terrence said – “Oh come on, that can’t be true!”
Rosa said – “You gotta believe Terrence! And who knows, if we try really hard, it just might!”
Alright then, the trio decided at least there’s no harm trying even if it sounded ridiculous. Maybe it would be fun!

Weather whether Weather
Rosa looked into her instructions and read them out loud – “Alright, the game goes something like this – One of us picks up anything that they can feel with any one of their senses. Then they write it down in the space right here on the paper. Then we all close our eyes and pray really hard. It’s better if we can rhyme it! Sounds simple enough. Terrence, would you like to go first?”
Terrence was excited to try it – “That sounds fun! Ok…hmm…let me think. Ok, I’m feeling very hot, I really wish if the weather would turn cold.”
Garlin found it funny – “Cold? Oh no…that’s so silly. But how cold do you want it to get? How about all the way till snow?”
So it was decided, they’ll try and get it to snow. Terrence wrote ‘Weather’ in the small space and they all closed their eyes and started wishing deep within their hearts – “We want it to snow!”
“We want snow as white as marshmallows!”
“We also want a carrot, 8 pieces of coal, 2 sticks, 2 mittens, 2 shoes, a hat, and a scarf for our snowman!”
The Unexpected
Terrence, Rosa and Garlin were so deep inside their thoughts with their eyes closed, that they never noticed that the season had started to change around them.
The sky had gone dark with clouds, and rain had started pouring. Then suddenly, the leaves had turned every shade of yellow, red and purple. And finally a close wind was settling in.
As it got colder, Garlin felt something on her nose. She slowly opened one of her eyes and stared right into the biggest piece of snowflake she had ever seen.
“Oh no! Rosa, Terrence…open your eyes quickly.”

Oh no what have we done!
Rosa and Terrence opened their eyes. There was snow around them everywhere they could see. The green park had completely gone blank and white. There was snow on the ground, snow on the trees, snow on the roof of the playground. There was even a little squirrel running around with a small hat made of snow!
“Oh no, what have we done!” Rosa exclaimed. The game really seemed to work like magic! “Is magic real after all?”
All around them kids and parents looked confused. They weren’t sure what has going on. Very quickly though, they realized that the sun was still up, which meant it was still warm enough, and there was a lot of snow. And you know what’s most fun – Snow!
So everyone gathered around and started throwing snowballs each other. Someone found an old sledge behind a wooden tree and they took turns sliding down the small hills around the park.
Snowman is fun
You know what else is fun with fresh snow – a Snowman! Rosa, Garlin and Terrence found some new friends and together they started building the biggest snowman there ever was.

Someone got a pair of boots, someone threw in a cap. They found some stones for the eyes and the buttons for the big guy. Garlin looked into her picnic basket and found a carrot for the nose!
Someone’s parent then came by with a big flask full of hot chocolate and marshmallows. It was all so much fun!
Opposite of opposite
The kids were having too much fun, but the day slowly became afternoon and then it was almost evening. Finally, it was starting to get cold.
Terrence said – “Ok, it might be time we do the opposite of the opposite and make it sunny again! Let me write summer now”
Garlin, Rosa and Terrence got all the kids and their parents and together they wished that it was summer again.
“Sun, please make it sunny again”
“We all can go back home then”
“Sun, please make it sunny again”
They went on and on. And before they knew it, the day was back just the way it was.
Nighty night
Rosa, Garlin, Terrence and all their new found friends gave each other the biggest, warmest, cuddliest hug. And they all went home.
It was finally time for Garlin, Rosa and Terrence to say goodbye to each other.
“See you later, alligator. Goodnight Rosa.”
“See you in a while, crocodile. Goodnight Garlin.”
“Goodnight Terrence”
“Goodnight Rosa. Goodnight Garlin.”
The evening news

“People visiting the park today got a wonderful surprise. A cold front moved in across the sea with a heavy load of snow. Surprisingly the snow was limited mostly to our neighborhood Park and a small area around it.
If you were one of the lucky ones to be in the area today, you have a story of a miracle to tell your kids and grandkids for years to come.
The mayor has got into action and the city already has the services up and running in the area. Thank you Mr. Mayor and everyone in the city.
This reporter, is now grabbing the largest cup of hot chocolate he could find, gathering all his friends and going for an evening stroll to the park.
If you want to build a snowman, join me. Don’t forget to get your mittens people, it’s going to be a cold one!”
